In the second survey on Italian Green SMEs, recently published by the Fondazione Impresa, 400 entrepreneurs of Italian small “green” companies were interviewed and asked to describe the status of their business in 2011. They declared that despite the current economic downturn, they still held reasonable confidence in the sector. 11, 6% of the operators, in fact, made investments in innovation in the second half of 2011 and 16% intended to do so in the first six months of 2012.
While traditional SMEs devolve only 9.5% of investments to innovation, in green enterprises innovation absorbs a quarter of investments (26.5%).
Moreover, the survey measured the perception of exit from the “tunnel of crisis” in metric terms. “In the last six months of 2011, the green small businesses said they had made almost one meter ahead of the first six months of that year, from 68.7 meters to 69.6 meters” they explain. “Indeed, the green firms are well-ahead of the small businesses in general; the latter stopped at 66.8 meters in the second half of 2011 .”
